Poison in Beauty History?  Arsenic?  Are you kidding?

We are well aware of the harm that arsenic can cause, right?   Poison has no place in my beauty routine and I hope it doesn't have a place in yours!

But in ancient times, arsenic had attraction to both women and men because eating a very small amount every day for a couple weeks led to "blooming complexion and glowing eyes'.  That translates to SWOLLEN and probably dilated.   Not really all that great.  The hacks who promoted the use under the care of a 'physician' didn't advertise about the "moniferous belly ache accompanied by vomiting" or the loss of hair.   Nor did they factor in the thinking of their clients -- "if a little is good; think what a little more would do."   Supposedly, "under the care of a  quack physician"  the intake would be controlled and be stopped from time to time to allow a toxic balance or some such nonsense.   Too many beauties were unwilling to risk fluctuation in their glow and suffered the consequences of arsenic's cumulative effects -- they died for beauty!

The arsenic levels built up in their system steadily; the glowing complexion was marred by the frown of a belly ache and shedding hair which led to desperate measures of taking another bit to try to keep ahead. Racing toward their goals and perceptions of beauty until too late.  Especially too late to decide one would be wise to learn to sing and be something besides a pretty face!

Some dissenters to the quack promotions suggested that people who were going to use arsenic, make some written note of it so that when and if  they passed the limit of toxic intake, their associates or relatives were not as likely to be charged with murder!  Think of the CSI on that -- husbands or wives who made Arsenic and Old Lace a reality show at their house by tinkering with the beauty supplies!

There are things one can EAT that will actually make you look better -- the ingredients are the items of a healthy diet which contains nothing to which you might be allergic.   Good nutrition, fresh air, meditation all work together for your beauty success…a success that has a greater chance at lasting longer before fading than the idea of nibbling arsenic for rosy cheeks.   You have a greater chance of lasting longer as well!
