Smoky Eyes for the 21st Century
Smoky eyes have
become popular for the cooler seasons with memories returning to the 1960s
styles for clothing and makeup.
Easing into the fall
makeup and style season early before the weather cools of can be fun. The smoky
eye affect can be achieved with other than the commonly used colors of gray or
black eye shadow.
You should always
consider which colors look best for your skin, but using some green, blue,
purple or taupe for the ‘smoky eye’ look can get you through the weather
transition and let you try out the styles that will be popping later in the
season. If your summer eye shadow colors need a little muting, you can lightly
brush white, ivory or even pale pink to accomplish the look you want.
While the styles for
makeup and clothes will reflect the 1960s, techniques available in 2007 can help
you update and make your look more beautiful than ever. For great 21st Century
“Smoky Eyes”, your eye liner should be dark but according to your choices, then
followed by a shadow of the same color. The liner and shadow are blended for a
softer look. Lashes that are curled before the mascara is applied will appear
more lush. Pale lips shouldn’t be invisible. The pale lips fashion merely is
pointing at not having a bright lip line be the first focal point for your face.
Tinted lip glosses or lighter lipstick that is close to the natural lip color
will enhance your lips and provide a better makeup balance with your new “smoky
eyes” than having your lips be neutral. The pretty lips won’t compete with your
eyes in a negative way.
While you are using
transition colors for your makeup, put MATTE choices on your shopping list for
October and November. Foundations are available in good matte colors that don’t
have to be the heavy layers that are appropriate for the runway models. The
matte make up is still light enough to be comfortable. Pack away the products
that give you a glittery glow. Using powders at all levels is a way to achieve
the matte look. Cream blush, eye shadows, etc will pick up on the natural oils
in you skin and shine. Lipstick and combination lip makeup are better choices
than the super shiny lip gloss from Summer.
The party and holiday
season of December will let you run joyously through metallic and glitter makeup
colors. Your skin colors will help you decide if you prefer gold or silver tones
in your metallic makeup choices. Even a metallic colored makeup choice such as
eye shadow, blush or lipstick will have the base gold or silver qualities that
you can choose between. Remember to try not to use all of your glittery makeup
on one event! Apply with moderation and let your happy eyes provide added
twinkle. Glitter on the powder eye shadow and on your blush brush will put the
shimmer in the right places to make your beauty plans successful.
