Color You Warm or Color You Cool

Your complexion tones make a lot of difference to the success of that certain sweater or dress. If the color of your clothing coordinates with complexion tones that fall into either a WARM rating or a COOL rating, the clothing will be a great compliment to your beauty. Wear something from the non-coordinating rating and all the balance of your beauty is thrown off.

There are still some places that offer professional color analysis where a consultant will compare many items to determine the best colors for you to wear. Some consultants advise with a system of SEASONS – Cooler colors go with Winter or Summer seasons while Warmer colors go with Autumn or Spring seasons. You may notice that Warmer colors tend more toward yellow tints, while the Cooler colors are more blue tinted.

A color analyst will use a fairly brightly lit environment. Patterns in the irises of the eyes seem to follow typical patterns for the various seasons. Additionally the analyst will hold swatches of fabric, particularly gold or silver close to the face of the analysis client. Warmer colors (gold) will enhance the appearance of people who fit the WARM category, but will look pretty awful near COOL people. Cooler colors will have the opposite effect by making COOL people glow.

Interesting points in color choices:

  • People in a certain Color rating type usually prefer the colors that fit them when given a free choice. But, if their mother is fits the opposite color rating type, the client was often dressed in HER favorite colors.
  • Personalities seem to follow the rating types. Warm people will be more outgoing, almost rowdy, or aggressive. Cool people are usually quieter and more reserved.

So, you can cut yourself a break, if you don’t have an opportunity to have a professional color analysis or have the equipment to conduct your own. Give yourself a little freedom of choice and you will probably choose things that work well for you. Remember, that color is important, but it is not all important. If you really are attracted to a garment that doesn’t always fit your color type, you can use make-up and accessories to help that garment be more complimentary to your beauty.
